The Diploma of Project Management is a one-year qualification that teaches you how to plan, run and close a project. You will study the full project lifecycle: how to define scope, build a schedule and budget, manage risks and quality, lead a project team, and report progress to stakeholders. Assessment is practical. You write project plans, work through case studies, and apply project management methods to real scenarios rather than memorising theory.
Australian diplomas are made up of units of study, each with a set credit point value. At this level the course is usually delivered over two or three study periods across the year, with each unit assessed on its own. Some units build on earlier ones, so the order matters. The diploma sits at Level 5 on the Australian Qualifications Framework, which places it between a certificate IV and an associate degree. It is a stand-alone qualification and also a pathway: graduates can often get credit towards a bachelor degree, which means starting a degree with some units already completed.
You will learn how to write a project charter, break work into tasks, estimate time and cost, and track a project against its baseline. You will also cover procurement, contract management, stakeholder engagement and the soft skills that decide whether a project succeeds: running meetings, negotiating, and giving clear updates when something slips. The course is taught in Australia, so you will be working with Australian workplace conventions and documentation.
This diploma suits people who coordinate work already and want a formal qualification, career changers moving into project support roles, and international students who want a shorter, job-focused qualification before deciding whether to continue to a degree. If you are an international student, you can work up to 48 hours per fortnight while your course is in session. After you finish, the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream may be available depending on your circumstances. English entry is usually IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall, with TOEFL, PTE and Cambridge C1 Advanced accepted as equivalents; the Student visa has its own separate English requirement set by the Department of Home Affairs. Tuition is published on the CRICOS register. Confirm all entry requirements, unit lists and fees on the official course page before you apply.
It typically takes 1 year, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
Tuition is around A$15,000 total. Fees change yearly, confirm with an advisor.
