The Bachelor of Business at Western Sydney University is a three-year degree built around how organisations actually run. You study accounting, economics, marketing, management and business law in first year, then choose a major or specialisation that shapes your last two. Teaching happens in semesters, with most students taking four units a semester at 10 credit points each, 240 credit points to graduate. Core units cover financial accounting, business statistics, organisational behaviour and commercial law; majors range across areas like accounting, applied finance, marketing, management, human resource management and international business. Assessment mixes exams, group reports, presentations and case studies drawn from real firms.
In your final year you can take a capstone unit that pulls the degree together, usually a business strategy or applied consulting project where a team works on a brief from an actual organisation. Many students also take a work-integrated learning unit: an internship, industry placement or community project that counts towards credit. Western Sydney has strong links with the Parramatta, Blacktown and Liverpool business corridors, plus the professional services firms and manufacturers across Greater Western Sydney, so placements often sit close to home. Some majors are accredited or recognised by professional bodies, accounting, for example, is structured so graduates can pursue CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants ANZ or IPA recognition, but you should check the current accreditation status for your chosen major on the official page.
The skills you build are practical: reading a balance sheet, writing a business case, running a project, interpreting market data, and working in teams that do not always agree. You learn to present to a room, argue with evidence, and use the software that finance, marketing and HR teams rely on. Class sizes are smaller in later years, and tutors are often practitioners who still work in the field.
This degree suits school leavers who want a broad business education before narrowing down, and also mature-age students already working who want a qualification that recognises their experience. If you are unsure whether you want accounting or marketing or management, the common first year lets you try before you commit. It is also a sensible pathway if you are considering an MBA later, the Bachelor of Business gives you the grounding that postgraduate study assumes. International applicants need to meet English requirements (IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall is the usual undergraduate standard) and the separate Student visa English threshold set by the Department of Home Affairs. While studying, a Student visa allows up to 48 hours of work per fortnight during term, and after graduating you may be eligible for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream. Tuition is published on the CRICOS register under course code 089205G. Confirm current unit lists, majors, accreditation and entry requirements on the official Western Sydney University page.
It typically takes 3 years, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
