This graduate diploma is for people who lead learning inside organisations. You study how adults learn, how to design training that actually changes what people can do, and how to assess whether it worked. The core units cover learning theory, instructional design, assessment and evaluation, and the management side, budgeting, compliance, and leading a team of trainers or educators. You will look at the Australian Vocational Education and Training (VET) system, including the standards that registered training organisations must meet, because many graduates work in or alongside that sector.
Australian graduate diplomas sit at AQF Level 8, between a bachelor degree and a master's. This one runs 1.5 years full time, usually delivered across semesters or trimesters with eight to twelve units of study, each worth a set number of credit points. You may be able to study part time, which suits people already working in training or HR. Assessment is typically a mix of written assignments, project work, presentations and a capstone unit where you design a learning programme for a real organisation. Some providers build in a professional placement or work-based project; check the official course page for what Vision College of Australia arranges.
You will come out able to write a training needs analysis, build a unit of competency or a short course around it, run a session, and report on outcomes with evidence rather than opinion. You will also pick up the management skills to run a training function: costing, scheduling, quality assurance and working with the compliance framework that applies to Australian training providers. Group work is common, and you will practise presenting to rooms of adults, the same thing you will do on the job.
This suits trainers, team leaders, HR staff, and teachers from other systems who now manage learning rather than just deliver it. It also works for people changing careers into corporate learning and development or the VET sector. If you want to go further, a graduate diploma often gives credit towards a master's degree. International applicants need to meet the English requirement and the separate Student visa threshold set by the Department of Home Affairs. On a Student visa you can work up to 48 hours per fortnight while your course is in session, and after graduating you may be eligible for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream. Confirm the current requirements on the official CRICOS listing and the Vision College of Australia course page.
It typically takes 1.5 years, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
Tuition is around A$18,000 total. Fees change yearly, confirm with an advisor.
