The Master of Artificial Intelligence in Business is a two-year coursework master's that sits at the intersection of AI and business strategy. You'll study machine learning, data analytics, and how to apply those tools to real commercial problems, forecasting demand, automating decisions, reading customer behaviour, and figuring out where AI actually pays off for an organisation. Alongside the technical side, there's the business side: strategy, operations, finance, and managing teams through technology change. The aim is to produce people who can talk to both the data scientists and the board.
Like most Australian master's degrees, this is built from units of study, each worth a set number of credit points. You accumulate credit points across the two years, usually over four semesters or trimesters, and you need a certain total to graduate. The early stages cover core material, programming for data, statistics, machine learning fundamentals, and business analytics. Later stages let you specialise through electives and move into a capstone project, where you take a real business problem and work through it end to end, often with an industry partner. Some students do a research-based thesis instead if they're heading towards further study.
By the end you should be able to build and evaluate machine learning models, clean and interrogate messy business data, and translate findings into recommendations a non-technical manager can act on. You'll also get practice in project management, ethical and regulatory questions around AI, and the kind of communication that gets a proposal approved. Work-integrated learning or an industry placement is common in this field, and it's where a lot of students land their first job offer.
This suits two groups. First, business graduates who want to move into analytics, product, or strategy roles and need the technical grounding to be credible. Second, technical people, engineers, analysts, IT professionals, who want to move into management or consulting and need the commercial vocabulary. If you're already working, the two-year length gives you room to do an internship or a substantial capstone without rushing. International students should note the standard student visa work rights: 48 hours per fortnight during study. After graduating, the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream may be available, depending on your circumstances. Confirm all details, including fees and English requirements, on the official CRICOS listing and the university's own page.
It typically takes 2 years, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
Tuition is around A$70,875 total. Fees change yearly, confirm with an advisor.
