A Bachelor of Business (Entrepreneurship and Innovation) is a three-year degree built for people who want to start something, a business, a side project, a social enterprise, or a new division inside an existing company. You study how businesses actually work: accounting, marketing, management, economics, business law and data. Then you specialise in the part most degrees skip, how to spot an opportunity, test it cheaply, and turn it into something that runs.
Australian bachelor degrees are made of units of study, each worth a set number of credit points. You need a certain total to graduate, usually 144 credit points for a three-year degree. Most students take four units a semester and study two semesters a year, though some institutions run three trimesters so you can finish faster or spread the load. Expect a mix of core business units everyone takes and a major in entrepreneurship and innovation. The later years often include a capstone unit where you build a full venture plan or work with a real client, and many courses include an internship or industry placement as a credit-bearing unit.
Early units cover the fundamentals: financial accounting, business statistics, microeconomics, marketing principles and organisational behaviour. From there you move into entrepreneurial finance, new venture creation, design thinking, innovation management, digital business models and small business law. Assessment is usually a mix of exams, group projects, pitches, business plans and reflective journals. You will present to panels, work in teams and get feedback from people who have run companies.
You learn to read a balance sheet, size a market, build a budget, write a business case and pitch to investors. You also learn the less glamorous parts, how to handle a co-founder disagreement, how to price a product, how to comply with Australian tax and employment rules. Group work is constant, so you get better at leading without formal authority and giving clear feedback.
This degree suits school leavers who already have a business idea, career changers who want to run their own thing, and people who want to work in startups, family businesses or innovation teams inside larger organisations. It also works if you are not sure yet and want a business degree that teaches you to make decisions with incomplete information.
English requirements for international applicants are set by the institution. The common standard for undergraduate business courses is IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall, with equivalents accepted through TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge C1 Advanced or the college's own English programmes. The Department of Home Affairs sets a separate English threshold for the Student visa. While studying, a student visa typically allows 48 hours of work per fortnight. After graduating, the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream lets you stay and work in Australia, provided you meet the requirements. Tuition is published on the CRICOS register, check the official course page for current fees, intake dates and unit lists.
Australian industries that hire these graduates include technology, professional services, retail and e-commerce, hospitality, financial services, agribusiness, health services and the not-for-profit sector. Sydney has a dense startup and small business community, and many graduates work in or near it.
It typically takes 3 years, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
