The Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) is a two-year course for people who lead learning inside organisations. It sits at graduate diploma level on the Australian Qualifications Framework, which puts it above a bachelor degree and below a master's. You study how adults learn, how to design training that changes what people can do at work, how to assess skills against competency standards, and how to manage the compliance and reporting that Australian training organisations live with every day.
Australian graduate diplomas are usually made up of units of study, each worth a set number of credit points, delivered across semesters or trimesters. You enrol in a set number of units each study period and accumulate credit points until you meet the course total. Some institutions build in a capstone unit where you pull the whole course together on a real learning problem from a workplace. Because this qualification sits in the vocational education and training sector, it is closely tied to the standards that registered training organisations work to, so assessment tasks tend to look like the documentation, session plans and evaluation reports you would actually produce on the job. Confirm the unit list, delivery mode and credit point rules on the official page before you apply.
Expect to work on learning design, facilitation, assessment tool development, learner support, and the management side of a training function, budgets, staff, quality systems, and the evidence you need to show an auditor that your training does what it claims. Group work and workplace projects are common. You finish with a portfolio of things you have made, not just exam results. The skills that matter here are writing clearly, judging whether an assessment is fair and valid, and getting a room of adults to engage with material they may not have chosen to attend.
This course suits trainers and assessors who want to move into learning and development management, HR staff who run induction and compliance training, and people from industry, health, trades, community services, corporate, who now teach what they used to do. It also works for international students who want an Australian qualification in adult education and training. If you are already experienced, check whether your institution offers credit for prior study or recognition of prior learning, because that can shorten what you need to complete.
International applicants need to meet the English requirement published for the course, IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall is the usual coursework-postgraduate standard, with TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge C1 Advanced and the institution's own English programmes accepted as equivalents. The Department of Home Affairs sets a separate English threshold for the Student visa itself, so check both. While you hold a Student visa you can work up to 48 hours per fortnight during study periods. After you finish, the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream may let you stay and work in Australia, depending on your circumstances. Tuition is published on the CRICOS register, look it up there and confirm all details, including entry requirements and start dates, on the official page.
Hiring industries include vocational education and training providers, government departments, healthcare and aged care, mining and resources, construction, banking and insurance, and large retail and hospitality groups, anywhere with a workforce that needs to be trained, assessed and kept compliant.
It typically takes 2 years, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
Tuition is around A$25,500 total. Fees change yearly, confirm with an advisor.
