The Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) is a two-year course for people who want to lead learning and development inside organisations. It sits at graduate level, so it assumes you already have some study or work experience behind you. You will look at how adults learn, how to design training that actually changes what people can do, how to assess skills against competency standards, and how to manage the compliance and quality side of a registered training organisation or an in-house learning team.
Expect units on learning design, adult learning principles, assessment and validation, managing training and assessment systems, and leading teams. You will also cover the business side: budgets, stakeholder management, continuous improvement and the regulatory frameworks that Australian training providers work within. Because this is a graduate diploma, the work is more analytical than a certificate IV or diploma. You are not just delivering training; you are deciding what training is needed, how to measure it, and how to report on it.
Australian graduate diplomas usually run over one to two years full time. This one is two years, which gives room for a supervised project or capstone where you tackle a real learning problem for an organisation. Assessment is a mix of written work, practical tasks and projects. Some providers build in a work placement or industry project, so ask the college how much of the course is spent in a workplace and how it is arranged.
You enrol in units of study, each worth a set number of credit points. Full-time students typically take four units a semester, though trimesters are also common at some colleges. To finish, you need to pass all required units and meet the total credit points for the award. If you have prior study or relevant work experience, you may be able to apply for credit, which shortens the course. Credit is assessed unit by unit, so you will need to provide transcripts and a detailed outline of what you have already covered.
This course suits trainers, team leaders, HR staff and managers who already work with learning and want a formal graduate qualification. It also suits people moving into learning and development from another field, or international students who want an Australian qualification in this area. If you are aiming for a role where you design, manage or evaluate training, this is a direct route.
You will study in Australia at a CRICOS-registered provider, so the course is open to international students. While you hold a Student visa, you can work up to 48 hours per fortnight once your course has started. After you finish, the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream may let you stay and work in Australia, provided you meet the requirements. English entry is commonly IELTS Academic 6.0–6.5 overall for courses at this level, or an accepted equivalent such as TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic or Cambridge C1 Advanced. The Department of Home Affairs sets a separate English requirement for the visa itself. Tuition is published on the CRICOS register. Check the official page for the current unit list, entry requirements and fees before you apply.
These roles sit in Australian industries such as vocational education and training, corporate HR, government agencies, healthcare, mining and resources, and community services. Employers include registered training organisations, TAFE and private colleges, large private companies, not-for-profits and government departments.
It typically takes 2 years, with intakes in Semester 1 (Feb/Mar), Semester 2 (Jul).
Tuition is around A$24,000 total. Fees change yearly, confirm with an advisor.
