The Master of Information Technology (Cyber Security) at Charles Darwin University is structured as a two-year postgraduate degree, focusing on the technical, analytical, and managerial aspects of cyber security. Students complete units of study covering network security, ethical hacking, cryptography, risk management, digital forensics, and cyber law as they relate to the Australian context. Hands-on experience is gained through practical labs and simulated cyber security environments.

Across four semesters, students earn credit points for each unit and build towards a major research project or capstone unit in their final year. This provides the chance to apply advanced skills to real-world scenarios—often involving industry engagement with Australian organisations. Many units integrate current industry trends and may feature guest seminars from practising cyber security professionals.
