The Graduate Certificate in Leadership is a short postgraduate qualification for people who want to lead well in a Christian or faith-based setting. It runs 26 weeks full time, which is one semester of study. You will take a small set of units in leadership theory and practice, and the coursework is taught from within a theological framework, so you look at how faith, values and ethics shape the way an organisation is run.
As a graduate certificate, this sits at AQF level 8. It is the shortest postgraduate qualification in the Australian system. You complete a defined group of units of study, each carrying credit points, and the total is usually half the volume of a graduate diploma. There is no research thesis at this level. If you later decide to keep going, the credit points you earn here can often be counted towards a graduate diploma or a master's degree, subject to the receiving course's rules. Confirm the exact units and credit points on the official page.
Teaching is on campus or in a mode the college offers, and assessment is by written work, case studies and practical leadership tasks. Some units include a supervised placement or ministry practicum, where you work alongside an experienced leader in a church, school, chaplaincy or community organisation. That is where the theory gets tested against real people and real decisions.
You study how organisations work, how teams behave, how change happens, and how to handle conflict and difficult conversations. You look at governance, budgeting and planning from a leader's seat rather than a follower's. Ethical decision-making runs through the whole thing, because the questions leaders in religious organisations face are rarely simple. You also practise communicating a vision, mentoring others, and reflecting on your own strengths and blind spots.
This course suits people already in leadership or moving into it: pastors, chaplains, school and college staff, managers in not-for-profits, board members, and volunteers who carry responsibility. It also suits graduates from other fields who want to work in faith-based organisations and need the leadership grounding. If you are considering ordination, it can sit alongside your formation, but check with your denomination about what they require.
International students study on a Student visa, which allows 48 hours of work per fortnight while your course is in session. After you finish, the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) post-study work stream may let you stay and work, depending on your circumstances. English entry for coursework postgraduate study is commonly IELTS Academic 6.0 to 6.5 overall, with TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge C1 Advanced and the college's own English programmes accepted as equivalents. The Department of Home Affairs sets its own English threshold for the visa. Tuition is published on the CRICOS register under course code 107378K. Check the official page for current fees, intakes and unit lists.
